About the PSP

The PSP was the gaming world’s first real challenge to the domination Nintendo had held over the handheld market since the arrival of the Game Boy, arriving in 2005 – just a few months after the Nintendo DS.

The PSP featured a larger screen and multimedia capabilities (so you could watch videos or listen to music as well as play games – it was even capable of watching TV shows). It could be connected to a PS3 system as well as other PSPs, and access the Internet, and is currently the only handheld console to use discs instead of cartridges.

The PSP and its redesigns managed to sell through 80 million units over its decade-long lifespan, which was just over half of the combined sales of the Nintendo DS family (154 million).
